DigiLocker is a government digital locker that allows citizens to store and access authentic documents issued by various government bodies. Part of the Digital India initiative.
Overview
DigiLocker is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY). It provides a secure cloud-based space to store documents such as marksheets, driving licences, vehicle registrations, ration cards, caste certificates, and more. Documents can be shared with organisations for verification.


Process
Visit digilocker.gov.in and sign up using Aadhaar and mobile number
Complete OTP verification
Create a 6-digit security PIN for your locker
Fetch documents from issuers (e.g., CBSE, state boards, RTO) using your Aadhaar
Upload personal documents (e.g., scanned certificates) to your locker
Share documents with requesting organisations via secure link or digilocker.gov.in verification

Note: DigiLocker is free. Over 62 crore users and 950+ crore documents are available. Documents fetched from issuers are legally valid as per IT Act 2000.
